Imbadu Men’s Project

The Imbadu Men’s Project was conceptualized in 2009 as an entry-level programme which lays the foundation for men to develop emotional language to speak to and share their experiences, different to how they have been socialized. Violence is seen by some scholars as ‘tragic’ and destructive responses with its gendered nuance in South African society amongst other found in the accelerated women’s empowerment which has taken place post-apartheid with men somehow lagging behind. Imbadu finetuned a simple approach to support men in the challenges they face to find constructive ways of reconfiguring their masculinities and change their behaviour, making them allies of women and other men. GenderWorks offers this 2-and-a-half-day programme as part of its service offering.
